“The greater the ignorance the greater the dogmatism” -William Osler (1849-1919) William Osler, a Canadian physician, and Professor of John Hopkins University, is regarded as the inventor of ‘Journal Club’ in 1875. Dr. Osler created the ‘Journal Club’ to critically evaluate published research articles and to discuss the same among the resident doctors. Following the footsteps of Dr. Osler, Pratiksha Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PIPS), Guwahati, Assam has started its own ‘Journal Club’ under the aegis of Dr. Satyendra Deka, Principal, PIPS. ‘Journal Club’ is an initiative of ‘Faculty Development Cell’, PIPS, where faculty members gather to discuss recent research findings around the globe taking clues from published literature. Holistic development of the club members in the scientific world is the primary goal of the ‘Journal Club’. It’s agenda is to ensure that the presentations inculcate scientific temperament among its members and enrich their knowledge by emphasizing on areas like choosing the right research topic, ways to find the gap in the research topic which is still unanswered, methods to analyze a research article critically, and the means to improve their appraisal skills. Presentations are conducted every Saturday. In the coming days, ‘Journal Club’ is planning to include senior undergraduate students as its members.
